Letter S is for scarecrow:Size sort

From the fantastic resources blog "2 Teaching Mommies" this is part of a whole scarecrow unit available for download here.

Click on the image on their blog post to download all the resources in one zip file.  The size sort is one single pdf - the first page is the scarecrow and birds, the second is a sorting mat for "small" "medium" and "big".  If yours is a littler tot (B falls into this category for some tasks!) there is a related tot pack to download further down the same post.  Great for a farm or autumn theme as well.

Letter S: s is for snowman: playdough mats

Free to download resources from prekinders.  The file contains pages to laminate (or place in a page protector for a cheaper alternative).  There is one set with numbers already printed (image shown above) and another set with the numbers missing.  Although the blog suggests the numberless files are for younger children who are not ready to count yet I think our personal preference will be to print one of the numberless pages and use number "tiles" instead - this way I can use dots, numerals and words to match with the manipulatives and save on printer ink at the same time.
Supply plain white playdough or add glitter to the mix to give a fine motor workout, or for just counting use cotton wool balls, "snowflakes" cut from doilies or white bottle tops.
Good for any winter theme maths centre as well as our S for snowman letter practise.

Letter S: s is for Snowman:Size Sort

This is just one of the activities offered for free by Confessions of a Homeschooler for s is for snowman suitable for pre-K.  It is one of those activities that B doesn't get (yet) and we have offered it and similar activities several times over the last year.  Whilst three snowman is OK ("big. little and middle") any more than this is just a little confusing for B at the moment so if you are offering this kind of activity for the first time you might want try it with a smaller number of snowman at first.

To download the pdf go to this page and scroll down to the appropriate image to find the link to the file.
