More See Trace Make sheets for future use.  Colours are something that B has off pat (most of the time - purple and pink still get confused) but these are for his brother to learn to spell and will then be passed on down.  A really doesn't like writing,or worksheets, but these sheets fool him into thinking that he is doing something babyish (and therefore easy so he doesn't run the risk of not being able to do it), and the make part of the sheets is a good idea for spelling without writing.

File Folder Games:Frog Colour Matching game for download

Another great game for free from File Folder Fun.

Simply match the frogs and the bugs - two colours on each one so slightly more difficult than the dinosaur colour match.  Download the pdf's from this page which includes other colour matching games.

File Folder Games: Dinosaur colour matching game for download

I have to confess I hadn't really come across File Folder Games as a concept until I started reading homeschool blogs during the last year.  File Folder Games along with Lapbooks were often mentioned and I didn't know what they were.  What I discovered was that File Folder Games are home-made games that allow learning and reinforcement on any subject and any level; they can be for kids to work on alone or for multiple players; and there are thousands of examples on the net for you to to inspired by or even use directly due to the generosity of some great educators.  This game is one such.
This file folder game is free for download from File Folder Fun.  It is a simple one to one colour matching game that you could use on its own or as part of a dinosaur theme and is listed along with several others on this page.
B got this straight away.  As I passed him each dinosaur he put it straight on the different shaped one that matched in colour (I think the only one he hesitated over was the purple one which he initially matched with the pink).  Of course we talked about each colour as we put them into the game as well.

Pre-Maths: Self checking colour grading game.

This is a simple game for preschool or early year students when they are practising terms like light/dark and lightest/darkest when learning about colours.

Use paint colour strips from the local DIY outlet that have shades of the same colour on the strip.
Cut in a strip half length ways.
Keep one half as it is.  Cut the other half into individual colours.

Have the child arrange the single colours from lightest to darkest (or vice versa).  Then they can check the order themselves by comparing it with the intact half.

Letter A: a is for astronaut: dominoes

Astronaut dominoes.  Use for colour matching and learning or to match with a space theme or along with other "a is for astronaut" themed activities.

We stuck the pages onto an opened-out cardboard box to make them stronger before cutting along the marked lines to make individual dominoes but you could laminate them for a longer lasting set.

Yesterday B and I worked on the essential pre-number mathematical skill of colour differentiation. Sounds impressive doesn't it! Here's how- take one box of Fruit Loops...... (and remember to take one very fuzzy photo:) )
