t rex stop motion video v1

Stop motion video version 1 - easy to do with a camera and tripod!

Pompom headband tutorial

Easy to make this headband is a perennial favourite on the craft stalls that R and I run as a side hustle.  If you use a candle instead of a lighter and cut the ribbon for the kids I have found that the older ones can do it all entirely on their own.

10 soups to try this month

January is National Soup Month in the US.  Listed below are 10 of the soups which we are keen to try.

1.  First up one of my favourite combinations cauliflower and blue cheese.  Delicious magazine gives this a spin by roasting the cauliflower to intensify the flavour in this Roasted Cauliflower and Stilton Soup.  Of course it lets me use up the last of the Christmas cheeseboard Stilton as well!

2.  Easy and cheap for saving those pennies during the coming year this Tomato and Red Lentil Soup from All Recipes packs a protein punch without the expensive meat.

3.  How do you make 250g of chicken feed 6 people?  Make this filling Chicken and Black Bean Chowder from Jamie Oliver.

4.  An old favourite spiced up this healthy Moroccan Carrot Soup is from Country Living Magazine

5  An absolute classic that can be served hot or cold, this is Delia Smith's Leek, Onion and Potato Soup

6  This Red Thai Curry Noodle Soup from Olive Magazine is big on taste but low in calories if you made a resolution to lose weight (again!)

7  Rich, filling and can be made ahead of time.  This Seafood Chowder is from House and Garden.

8  Made with the best Somerset ingredients this Cheddar and Cider Soup is a locally sourced recipe for me.  From the Guardian newspapers Nigel Slater this soup is part of a whole page of autumn ingredient ideas.  Serve it as the Italians serve soup, ladelled over crusty bread in the bottom of the bowl.

9 Packed with healthy nuts this Mushroom, Chestnut and Walnut Soup is a variation on an old classic from Good Housekeeping

10 Straight from the freezer, what could be easier!  This Pea and Mint Soup is from Woman and Home.

10 Chocolate Cake recipes to try this year

For my son B if it is cake it has to be chocolate.  In honour of his birthday this month here is a round up of 10 of the most delicious looking recipes from the web.

1.  Chocolately and moist, a good basic cake from stagetecture and one which everyone will like.

2.  Bananas and Nutella, this would be the one for A.  Strictly "Plain Jane" in terms of decoration  so not strictly a birthday cake but good for when you are looking to use up over ripe bananas this one is from Baking Queen 74

3 If it is white chocolate then it is just for R.  Pure and unadulterated this simple looking vanilla and white chocolate cake is from complete recipes.

4.  1970's classic that Dad loves, cherries and chocolate make the best combination.  This is an eggless version of the Black Forest Gateau from Super Golden Bakes.

5. Chocolate, Pumpkin and Caramel.  This spectacular layer cake from Something Swanky screams autumn.

6. Strictly speaking a banana layer cake with chocolate ganache, this dark chocolate, banana and caramel layer cake from flour covered apron has my name on.

7.  Raspberries and chocolate.  These cupcakes from Taste and Tell have a raspberry filling and a raspberry meringue topping.  Yum.

8. A also loves Oreo's.  This spectacular looking Oreo Drip Cake is from Jane's Patisserie

9.  This is one cake which reminds me of After Eight mints.  Chocolate Mint Layer cake from Bird on a Cake

10. Finally we could not leave the list without a darker than dark layer cake like this one from Lovely Little Kitchen
